Hey Bookies,
Happy New Month!
Our book for this month is “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini.
It’s been a while since I read a book that touched me as much as this book did when I read it last month. (PS: Special thanks to my brother Jesudamilola for recommending it to me).
The Kite Runner book tells the story of Amir, the son a wealthy man in Afghanistan, and his friendship with the son of his father’s servant, Hassan. It takes us through the dynamics and evolution of this friendship in the midst of privilege, class and war. The story is told against the backdrop of the history of Afghanistan, before the interest of the Soviet union or the rise of the Taliban, and the devastating effects war can have on a country and its people.
The Kite runner explores so many themes in its pages. It explores friendship, loyalty, family, betrayal, war, immigration, love, redemption… just to mention a few. Khaled Hosseini weaves the story in such a brilliant and riveting way that readers don’t get bored or overwhelmed by the various themes explored.
This book and the story is beautiful, heartbreaking and educating all at the same time. I shed a couple of tears while reading, and by the last page Khaled Hosseini had won me over as a huge fan. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
As usual, leave your thoughts in the comment section! I would love to read them!
