Hey Bookies,
Happy New Month!!!
It’s the last month of 2021 and I needed to find the perfect book to end this year with. I wanted a book with the theme of gratitude. A book that will remind us all that we have reasons to be thankful. A book to remind us to breath, smell the roses, and find reasons to be grateful for where we are.
I wanted a book with this theme because I realize as the year is coming to an end, we sometimes find ourselves having regrets about what we did and didn’t achieve throughout the year. A lot of us might be going through the goals and resolutions we wrote down at the beginning of the year and find that we didn’t quite hit the mark on some of them. I know I find myself doing this a whole lot this time of the year.
And that is why I ended up choosing this book, “The gifts of imperfection” by Brené Brown. I have had this book on my to-read list for the longest time so I’m very excited to finally be reading it.
In this book, Brené Brown teaches us how to be okay with not being perfect and embrace and engage with our imperfections.
One key concept the book talks about that particularly resonated with me is the concept of “wholehearted living” and she describes this as
“engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, ‘No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.’ It’s going to bed at night thinking, ‘Yes I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.’”
Now read that quote again. Very slowly. Especially the bolded parts.
I think this book is a perfect one to end the year with, and to remind us that we need to give ourselves grace.
We need to learn to accept our imperfections, limitations, vulnerabilities, and work with them instead of being ashamed of them.
I hope you enjoy reading it. Remember you can always share your thoughts in the comment section. I always look forward to reading them
