Hey Bookies! Happy New Month!
This month, we are reading one of my favorite Nigerian Novels “The Secret life of Baba Segi’s wives” by Lola Shoneyin.
.
This book tells the story of Baba Segi, a 42 year old uneducated, wealthy man with 4 wives and 7 children. So what happens when Bolanle, his newest and educated wife fails to conceive after 2 years?
That’s the tale this book seeks to unravel from the perspective of Baba Segi and each of his 4 wives.
This book is a classical tale of the woes of polygamy. The jealousy, rivalry, competition, secrets and relationships that are characteristic of a polygamous home. I particularly chose this book for this month because of the theme of infertility that is explored in the book as that ties to the stories I have been sharing on the blog these past weeks (READ HERE).
This story is funny, enlightening, heartwarming, and gripping.
I found it difficult to put this book down once I started reading it, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. As usual, you can leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
Catch y’all next month with the next book!
